Biography of Maurice Paul

The Belgian impressionist painter Maurice Paul (Mons 1889-1965 Uccle) traveled back and forth between Brussels, Ostend and the French Côte d'Azur after his training in search of the motifs he was looking for. He found them in the apparently innocent rhythmic arrangement of the brightly colored houses, the busy village squares, the colorful harbors and the bathers on the beach. His work is smoothly designed, colorful and pays attention to the representation of light at various times of the day. Typical features of traditional impressionism. Renée Smithuis 2008 made a book for an exhibition for Museum Kranenburgh around 'Party, from Carnival to Christmas', which included a work by Maurice Paul. His works do well at auctions in Belgium and is popular in the Netherlands for its cheerful cityscapes.
